Lessons Offered

What Can I Teach You?

I can offer lessons in music theory, analysis, composition, and sight reading, as well as practical skills in the following areas:

Piano

Voice

Ukulele

Beginner Guitar or Bass Guitar

Beginner Drums

Woodwind – saxophone, clarinet, flute, or recorder

I also run an early music education group program called Rhythm & Rhymes that can be booked in for playgroups and preschools, and hold group classes for homeschooled children on Thursdays during school terms.

What Age Group Do I Teach?

I have past experience teaching young adults at university and small groups of preschool-aged children, and currently teach a range of individuals – mostly school-aged, but some of a more mature vintage. I have a Working With Children Check and ample experience in assisting those with learning difficulties, as well as being a certified DRUMBEAT facilitator. I am willing to work with anyone from age 1 through to 100 (or beyond!).

What Styles or Methods Do I Use?

I can adapt my techniques to suit whatever you want to achieve. Classical, Pop, Jazz, Bluegrass/Opera/Punk Fusion, whatever. There are as many approaches to learning music as there are people to make it.

At our first meeting I will get to know you and work out what will suit your needs, whether that be a formal progression through grades and exams, or an informal, student-led approach purely for your personal enjoyment. I’m also happy to bounce around between instruments if you’re like me and want to try a bit of everything.

Ultimately, I want you to find music practice fun, inspiring, and affordable.

Speaking of money…

We all have our struggles and I dislike how much of a barrier money can be to achieving personal growth and fulfilment. As such, my goal is to keep lesson costs at a level you can afford. If my private lessons are still too expensive for you I recommend organising a group class with some friends/siblings/parents (from personal experience, kids really respond well when their parents are learning a new skill alongside them). These work especially well for ukulele/guitar and singing classes. Maybe you could form a family troupe!

My rates are:

Private Lessons –

$35/30min (this drops to $25 for additional family members)

$50/45min (this drops to $40 for additional family members)

Group Lessons –

$15 per person/30min (minimum $35)

$20 per person/45min (minimum $45)

Life happens, though, so we can negotiate if necessary. You can pay weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or per 9-week term, and you don’t have to cover lessons you can’t attend (so long as you keep me informed). I can also accept the Creative Kids Voucher to go towards covering your fees if the student is school-aged and eligible to receive it. I teach weekly lessons throughout the school term, with optional activities in the holidays as mutually agreed upon.

Where Will You Find Me?

I teach from my studio at 4/200 Kerry St, Sanctuary Point (behind Bendigo Bank).
